Our Mission Statement
Salusbury WORLD is an autonomous organisation governed by a Board of Trustees and maintained by voluntary funding. It is based in Salusbury Primary School and its client group is Salusbury School"s pupils and their families. Salusbury WORLD"s vision and policies are compatible with those of the School, and Salusbury WORLD aims to work closely with the staff of the School to create a consistent educational and social experience for the children.
Salusbury WORLD"s mission is to create an environment and practices which will:
- help refugee children and their families to become fully participative members of UK society;
- welcome new arrivals to the School and help them to integrate successfully, both educationally and socially;
- provide refugee pupils with educational support to enable them gain full access to the National Curriculum;
- support and advise the staff of the School regarding the education and welfare of individual refugee pupils and the refugee community as a whole;
- provide out-of-school activities for children in a relaxed but structured setting, which will give opportunities for play and sport, creative activities, socialising with their peers and with sympathetic adults, developing their communication skills and self-expression, and enjoying constructive leisure time;
- expand children's experience, knowledge and enjoyment of their environment through visits and trips;
- provide direct, practical help and advice to parents and refer them to the providers of specialist help when appropriate, especially to improve parents" knowledge of the UK education system and enable them to support their children's learning by ensuring they are aware of school curriculum workshops and by organising specialist workshops ourselves;
- create opportunities for the parents of refugee pupils to expand their social contacts through informal events and sharing their skills as volunteers;
- act as a model of good practice and share Salusbury WORLD"s experience by offering training to other schools and institutions wishing to respond to the needs of refugee children, and by publishing relevant material;
- promote a positive view of refugees and their contribution to UK society through visibility in the community, and, when appropriate, by presenting Salusbury WORLD's experience and viewpoint in public;
- ensure that all the project"s activities remain true to the tenets of the Salusbury WORLD vision statement, and aim at the highest quality of delivery.
