Resources
Iraq Planning Web
Aims:
- To find out what students already know about Iraq
- To highlight key areas of interest through discussion
- To formulate questions to be answered by research
- To monitor gains in knowledge and understanding
Activity:
- Write the word Iraq in the centre of a large piece of paper, and ask the students what comes to mind
- Record their responses in large clear writing on post-it notes and attach them to the paper around the word Iraq
- Accept all their associations so there are no wrong answers
- When the suggestions run out, ask the students to reflect on the paper.
- Are there any common themes? Can they move the post-its around to group related suggestions?
- Is there any mis-information? Can this be corrected?
- What are the questions they would like to ask/investigate?
- Write the questions on post-its and stick on a separate piece of paper
- These can also be edited, as above, before agreeing on a final set of questions
- Discuss possible resources for research
- Allocate individual questions to the students to investigate
- Students report back on their findings at the end of the session
- As a group, compare results with the original planning web and question list. What has changed?
